Mustangs Pickup Road Sweep at Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Stevenson women's volleyball team (11-1, 2-0 MACC) defeated Catholic (5-7, 0-0 Landmark) 3-0 Wednesday evening at Franny Murray Court. Set scores were 25-15, 25-19 and 25-19.
 
The first set began tightly contested with the team's battling through four tie scores and one lead change. Shannon Baily and Sarah Straub combined for a block to spark a three-point Mustang run to a 12-9 advantage. The Mustangs would not allow the Cardinals to earn back-to-back points for the remainder of the set, taking the final 16 of 22 points to win the set 25-15.
 
Stevenson led the second frame wire-to-wire, opening a 11-6 lead when Haley Hoover picked up a block. Catholic narrowed the gap to 17-15 before Stevenson added a three-point run sparked by a kill from Giulia Viglietta to a 20-15 lead. The sides traded points for the next six points before the Mustangs registered the final two points to take the set 25-19.
 
The Mustangs sprinted to a 6-0 lead to start the third frame, taking advantage of three kills from Shannon Baily. Kylie DesLauriers and Haley Hoover put down back-to-back kills to move the Mustang lead to 13-7. Catholic utilized a four point run to narrow the gap to 16-14 in favor the Stevenson before the sides traded the next six points. Stevenson finished the frame on a 6-2 run, with the final point earned on a Makala Thompson ace.
 
Numbers and Notes What's Next
  • Stevenson returns to action for a tri-match hosted by Muhlenburg in Allentown, Pa on Saturday, September 24. The Mustangs will face Dickinson at 2pm before squaring off with Muhlenburg at 4pm.
Catholic will take part in the Worthington Classic hosted by Gallaudet on September 23-24. On September 23, the Cardinals will face DeSales at 2pm followed Salisbury at 6pm before facing Marymount (Va.) at 10am on September 24.
