OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson men's soccer (0-4-4) faced a tough pairing against No. 23 Gettysburg College (5-0-1) at the inaugural match on the new Bermuda grass field at Owings Mills East on Wednesday.
First-year Stevenson goalkeeper Nolen Olson-Warwick notched his first minutes on the home field during this match, clocking in just under 32 minutes of play and recording a save.
Gettysburg started the first half hot with three shots between the fourth and fifth minute. In the ninth minute, the Bullets were nearly on target, but were unable to see past SU goalkeeper senior Kristian Slaby. Following a Mustang foul, Bullet Connor Fife put one in off a penalty kick in the 15th minute to give the Bullets a 1-0 lead. A few minutes later, the second goal of the evening tallied for the Bullets off the foot of Athi Msiza.
While they gained traction to combat Gettysburg's offense, the Mustangs' efforts came to fruition with a goal in the 27th minute from the foot of Taigo Silva, assisted by Jaden Robinson and Jack Accorsi. Back and forth play followed until the end of the half, when the Mustangs brought the game to a draw in the 41st minute with a score from sophomore forward Joe Nicholson off an Edwin Romero assist in the draw at the half.
In the second half, the Bullets' offense remained laser-focused, and broke the tie with a goal in the 54th minute by Aidan Muller. The half saw multiple fouls and several yellow cards issued, and though the Mustangs attempted a shot in the 73rd minute, they could not score. The game ended in a loss of 3-2 for Stevenson.
