Mustangs Earn Fourth Tie with 3-3 Draw against Catholic

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson men's soccer (0-3-4) faced a tough Catholic University team (3-0-3) Saturday evening at Mustang Stadium. The match ended in another draw on record for the Mustangs with a final score of 3-3.
 
Stevenson's Edson DeMata Ribeiro netted two goals on three shots on the evening while Kristian Slaby totaled four saves in the entire 90 minutes.
 
The Cardinals opened the half with an attempt from Jack McEvoy in the sixth minute. After several close calls, Adam White made the second attempt in the 11th minute, but missing wide right. The Cardinals struck first, netting the first goal in the 14th minute, off the foot of Gordie Bernlohr. Catholic added another tally in the 17th minute when Owen Maher sent a ball home assisted by Ryan Bardby . The Mustangs put one in at the 18th minute off the foot of Iliass Zouita. Both teams continued to battle, committing five fouls each and three corner kicks in the remainder of the first half.
 
The second half opened with a series of two yellow cards credited to Cardinal Owen Maher, resulting in a red card. With a foul committed just outside the box resulting in a free kick, DeMata Ribeiro deposited the equalizer in the 51st minute. Following a foul inside the box, the Mustangs took the lead with another goal off the foot of DeMata Ribeiro in the 62nd minute. The Cardinals' offense gained focus and tied the match with a goal from Bernlohr. Both teams remained offensively steady, but neither was able to break the draw.
