Mustangs Falter to Lynchburg in Close Match

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – In the last home game collection of matches, Stevenson fell to University of Lynchburg 2-1 on Wednesday evening on SU's home field.

With a 19-5 shot margin in the game, the Hornets improved to 4-1 while the Mustangs fell to 3-3. 

The opening quarter saw two shots from the Mustangs. Sophomore midfielder Rylee Leakwaysent one towards Lynchburg goalkeeper Kayla Brady in the fourth minute. Stevenson's Emma Gladstein, junior attack, followed in the sixth minute, but both attempts were saved by Brady.

Lynchburg got on the board in the second quarter following a penalty corner as junior midfielderAaryn Boatwright found the back of the box in the 20th minute.

In a back and forth contest moving into the third quarter, Lynchburg notched the second goal of the game as Boatwright sent another past Mustang goalkeeper Jamie Fritz in the 34th minute with assistance from Aurora Balsamo. The Mustangs followed with an attempt off a penalty corner by Leakway, but was not able to get a shot past Brady. The Mustangs remained focused defensively as the third quarter rounded out with multiple attempts from the Hornets.

The Lynchburg team continued their momentum into the fourth quarter. Determined to get on the board, the Mustangs notched a score in the 57th minute after a penalty corner. The shot bysophomore Haley Palmer came off an assist from Gladstein.

NUMBERS AND NOTES

• Three green cards were issued on the evening, two for Stevenson and one for Lynchburg.
• Fritz gained two saves on the day, increasing her count to 18 on the season.
