Mustangs Yield 7-0 Road Match at Shenandoah

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Stevenson field hockey (3-4) lost to undefeated Shendandoah University (7-0) in a Wednesday evening match in Virginia, remaining scoreless on the evening.

While the Hornets dominated the game, the Mustangs recorded six shots with three on goal and six saves.

As the game began, the first goal came less than a minute in from Hornet Madison Short, with the assist from Farren Winter, while a second goal came in less than a minute later. Stevenson's first attempt at goal came from junior attack Emma Gladstein after a penalty corner with a blocked shot from Haley Palmer. The Hornets were not so easily fazed as Shenandoah's Cassidy Morrison recorded the third goal of the night in the 13th minute.

The second quarter opened with the Hornets taking multiple shots, two of which SU senior goalie Jamie Fritz saved. The Hornets' offense made an extra push, earning them a fourth goal, this one by Lauren Tyre from Maired Mckibbin. A fifth goal over a minute later came from Mckibbin.

The third quarter saw an offensive push opening from the Mustangs off a penalty corner. Both Palmer and Gladstein had shots, but were unable to find the back of the box. The Hornets answered with a penalty corner in the 37th minute, earning them another score. A final Hornets goal rounded out the third quarter in the 45th minute.

In the last quarter, the Mustangs' defensive stand kept the home team from scoring, with two more saves from Fritz. However, no shots made it past the Hornets' Taylor Swann.
