OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson field hockey continued their home slate on Owings Mills East Saturday afternoon, falling 4-0.
Washington (3-1), outshot Stevenson (3-2), by a decisive 12-1 margin.
Julianna Sterling put the Shorewomen on the board in the opening quarter.
Abbygail Hurst registered the lone chance for Stevenson moments later before the Shorewomen fired a shot off the post.
Jamie Fritz stopped a Kat Esposito chance in the late stages of the opening frame.
With penalty corners at the tail end of the first and start of the second quarter, the Shorewomen offense owned possession, securing the second goal. Fritz made the second save of the match with a shot from Esposito. Anna Harrington followed with another chance seconds later that sailed wide. After a back and forth affair, the Shorewomen scored the second goal of the match off a penalty corner from the stick of Sterling with an assist credited to Jules Weglarz.
The 30
th minute saw three shot attempts from the Shorewomen, all of which were saved by Fritz. The Shorewomen notched the third goal of the game in the 36
th minute by Kat Esposito from Alexis Tackney. Both defensive units remained upright as the third quarter counted down.
The final goal of the match arrived just under two minutes into the fourth quarter, this time scored by Tackney from Sterling of the Shorewomen.
NUMBERS AND NOTES
- Two green cards were administered in the last quarter for the Shorewomen.
- With five saves on the day, Fritz increased her total to 16 on the season.
