Box Score 2 READING, Pa.- The Stevenson softball team earned a split at Alvernia in MAC Commonwealth play, Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs came back in game one to win, 6-3 but fell short in game two, 3-2.
Alvernia started the scoring in game one against the Mustangs. The Golden Wolves scored on a ground out to first. At the top of the fifth, Stevenson tied up the game 1-1. Maddie Bosley hit a single up the middle, then stole second. Megan Hamp doubled to left center to bring home Bosley. In the bottom of the fifth Alvernia got one back to take a 2-1 lead after an RBI single to center field.
In the sixth inning, the Mustangs started to gain momentum and took over with a 4-2 lead. Rebecca Henry started off the inning with a single to shortstop and then stole second. Henry then advanced on a wild pitch to third. Jordan Fangman doubled to left center to bring home two runs for Stevenson. With just one out, the bases were loaded as Sierra Stark singled down the left field line for an RBI. A sacrifice fly to right field brought in the fifth run for the Mustangs.
The Golden Wolves added their third run in the bottom of the sixth to cut Stevenson's lead, 5-3. Fangman added her second double of the day as she hit an RBI to left center.
Game 1 Notes:
- Marissa Heuer pitched her seventh complete game of the season as she threw a season high nine strikeouts.
- Fangman went 2 for 5 with three RBI, one run scored and two doubles.
- Hamp went 2 for 2 with one run scored, one RBI, and one stolen base.
In game two Alvernia took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Stevenson tied things up at 2-2 in the top of the fourth. Rivers Edwards reached first on a fielding error by the center fielder. Henry singled to the shortstop and Edwards advanced. On a ground out to third, Henry advanced to second. Fangman hit her third double of the day on two RBI's to left field. The Golden Wolves sealed their 3-2 win over Stevenson in the bottom of the sixth with a double to left center.
Game 2 Notes:
- Fangman went 1 for 4 with two RBI and a double.
- Edwards went 1 for 2 with one run scored, and a double.
- Jillian Haines pitched all six innings for Stevenson totaling two strikeouts.
The Mustangs return home this Tuesday, April 5th at 3:00 PM as they host Mary Washington for a non-conference doubleheader.
