STEVENSON, Md. - The Stevenson men's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory over York (Pa.) at the Stevenson Courts - improving its MAC Commonwealth record to 4-1.
Junior Ben Porto - who was just named the MAC Commonwealth Men's Tennis Player of the Week - and senior Lukas Sanidas improved their doubles record to 4-2 after taking down their opponents in No. 2 by an 8-4 score.
Sophomore Sathwik Madasi and freshman Simeon Smith picked up their third win as a duo in an 8-2 rout in No. 3.
In singles play, Porto won his fourth match of the year after his opponent retired following the first set. Porto won the opening set by a 6-2 score.
Senior Larry Johnson III won his fifth match of the year in thrilling fashion, 6-4, 4-6, 10-3, while JJ Bonta dominated his No. 3 opponent in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 - improving his season record to 9-6.
Sanidas was leading the first set of his No. 4 match 5-0 before his opponent retired, giving Sanidas his fifth win of the year. Madasi picked up his fifth win of the season in dominating fashion, 6-1, 6-0. Freshman Niko Bifsas improved to 6-4 after cruising to 6-2, 6-3 triumph in No. 6.
The Mustangs (7-9, 4-1 MACC) continue conference play in a road match at Alvernia on Saturday, April 23 at 1:00 p.m.
