GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Stevenson men's tennis team improved its conference record to 3-1 after coming back to defeat host Messiah by a 5-4 score.
With two matches yet to conclude, the Mustangs were down by a 4-3 score.
In No. 4 singles, sophomore Sathwik Madasi overcame a one-set deficit to win his match by a 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 score - which knotted the score at 4-4.
The deciding match was in No. 1 singles, where junior Ben Porto was battling his opponent in a decisive third set. With Porto down by a 4-3 score, the match was delayed for 30 minutes due to rain. Once the match resumed, Porto stormed ahead and took the third set and the match by a score of 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 - giving the Mustangs the win.
Junior JJ Bonta and senior Larry Johnson III picked up their fifth win as a duo in No. 1 doubles by an 8-4 score.
In No. 2 singles, Johnson III earned his fourth victory of the year in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Bonta made quick work of his opponent in No. 3, 6-0, 6-2 - improving his singles record to 8-6 on the year.
The Mustangs (6-9, 3-1 MACC) continue conference play in a home match against York (Pa.) on Tuesday, April 19. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
