Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The 13th-ranked Stevenson men's lacrosse team was dealt its first defeat of the 2022 season, dropping a 12-9 decision to No. 15 Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon.
Stevenson (2-1) scored seven of its nine goals in the opening quarter before Gettysburg (3-1) responded back. Saturday's game marked the first regular season loss for the Mustangs since March 7, 2020.
Ryan Coleman and Josh Brannan paced the Mustangs with a pair of goals each, while Marc Poust came up with 15 saves. There were just three combined goals in the second half as both goalies stood tall for their respective teams.
Nolan Enneguess won 12 of 16 faceoff chances, while Jack Scaliti posted a goal and four ground balls for the Mustangs. Gettysburg boasted a balanced scoring attack with five players posting a pair of goals.
Kieran Ward registered two goals with four assists for the Bullets as goalie Scott Macmillian collected 17 stops. Stevenson held a 17-9 margin in shots over the opening quarter, finishing with the narrow 46-45 edge in the shot department.
After surrendering the first goal, Stevenson responded with three unanswered in the opening quarter for an early 3-1 lead. Brannan, Grant Zick and Scaliti pushed the Mustangs in front. Gettysburg eventually leveled the score at four in the opening frame before the Mustangs closed the quarter with three of the last four tallies for a 7-5 advantage.
The Bullets scored three unanswered to kickstart the second quarter, later adding the final two goals of the half for a 10-8 advantage over the Mustangs.
Spencer Knife registered a man-up marker for the lone goal of the third quarter and posted a key insurance marker at 7:54 in the fourth.
Brannan capped the scoring at 4:42 in the fourth with an unassisted tally, bringing Stevenson to within 12-9. After the goal, Stevenson continued applying the pressure with a two man-up chance, including a look from Cam Leydig at 3:35.
