Mustangs Drop Two to Lebanon Valley in Conference Play

OWINGS MILLS, Md.- The Stevenson softball team dropped their first two conference games of the season to Lebanon Valley. The Dutchmen remain undefeated in conference play after winning, 10-1, 5-3. 

Lebanon Valley put two on the board first in the top of the second after an RBI single and a fielder's choice. The Mustangs added their lone run of the game in the bottom of the second. Marissa Heuer hit a home run to right field. The third and fourth innings were scoreless for both teams. 

In the top of the fifth, the Dutchmen extended their lead to five as they brought home three more runs. LVC doubled to left-center to bring in a runner and then added a single to right field which brought two bring two across home plate. The Dutchmen kept with their momentum as they added two more runs in the sixth. LVC ended the first game with three more runs as they defeated Stevenson, 10-1. 

Game 1 Notes: 

  • Lebanon Valley scored ten runs on 17 hits with one error while Stevenson scored one run on three hits and one error. 
  • Heuer gets her second loss of the season moving to 4-2. Heuer recorded four strikeouts. 
  • At bat, Heuer went 1 for 3 with one run scored, an RBI, and one home run. 

In game two, the Mustangs dropped a close, 5-3 contest to the Dutchmen. Stevenson got on the board first bringing in three runs. Jordan Fangman scored on a wild pitch after getting walked to first, stealing second, and then advancing on a fielder's choice. Jillian Haines hit an RBI single to center field to bring home Maddie Bosley. Then, Rebecca Henry singled through the right side to bring Megan Hamp across home plate. 

Stevenson's three runs in the first would go on to be the only runs scored for the Mustangs in game two. Lebanon Valley added a run in the third and then two in the fourth to tie up the game, 3-3. The Dutchmen then added a run in the sixth and one in the seventh to secure their win. 

Game 2 Notes: 

  • Hamp went 1 for 4 with one run scored and one double. 
  • Haines went 1 for 3 with an RBI
  • Haines moves to 2-2 in the circle as a pitcher. 

The Mustangs will travel to Randolph-Macon, on March 31 at 3 PM for a mid-week non-conference match-up.
