Flanagan Puts Down Career-Best 20 Kills in 3-1 Victory over Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Stevenson first year Tim Flanaga deposited a career-best 20 kills as the ninth ranked Stevenson men's volleyball team (18-8, 8-2 MAC) defeated Arcadia (10-15, 6-4 MAC) by a score of 3-1 Saturday afternoon. Set Scores were 28-18, 25-17, 14-25 and 25-20.

Arcadia and Stevenson battled back and forth to a 10-10 tie before a kill from Elliot De La Torre and ace from Tanner Stauffer gave the Mustangs the edge they were looking for. Stevenson leveraged their lead to 15-12 on a kill from Justin Novoa.

Stevenson soon commanded a 20-14 advantage with a four-point run which saw a kill from Tanner Stauffer and an ace from Ryan Thennel. The Mustangs finished the frame with a 3-1 run including a kill from Tim Flanagan to take the set with a score of 25-18.

Stevenson began the second set strong, jumping to an 8-4 advantage with a kill from Flanagan. Stevenson pushed their lead to 16-12 with a block from the duo of Tanner Stauffer and Elliot De La Torre.

Stevenson continued their pressure in the set, taking a 5-1 run to the 21-15 mark with kills from Stauffer and Flanagan and a block assist from De La Torre and Aleks Melbardis. Stevenson sealed the set with a three-point rally capped off by a kill from Stauffer.

Arcadia would take the lead in the third set and never relinquish their advantage. The Mustangs tied the set at 11-11 with a block from Melbardis and De La Torre but the knights responded by rattling off the next five points to a 16-11 lead.

Aidan O'Brien and Melbardis paired up to block the Arcadia attack to move the score to 18-13 before the Knights went on a four-point rally. Brian Farrell notched a kill to halt the momentum at 22-14 but the Knights would finish the frame with the last three points to take the third set 25-14.

Stevenson led the fourth set wire-to-wire, not even allowing the Knights to tie the score. The Mustangs widened their lead to 9-3 with a four-point rally which included a kill from Tim Flanagan and two from Tanner Stauffer.

The Mustangs added another four-point rally to leverage a 13-4 lead with kills from Elliot De La Torre and Stauffer as well as an ace from Ryan Thennel. Aidan O'Brien sent down a kill followed by kill from Tanner Stauffer to set the score to 20-11 in favor of the Mustangs. Flanagan added two kills in the final three points to give the Mustangs the set at 25-20.

  • Stevenson remains on the road for their next contest, traveling to Messiah for a 7pm bout.
