Box Score 2 ST. DAVID'S, Pa.- The Stevenson softball team opened up MAC Commonwealth play with a 7-0, 4-3 sweep over Eastern. Senior, Marissa Heuer pitched her first career no-hitter in game one and then earned her first career save in game two.
Game 1:
Game one of the doubleheader against Eastern was scoreless until the top of the sixth when the Mustangs put up three runs. Maddie Bosley doubled then advanced to third and scored on a fielder's choice. Heuer singled for an RBI bringing in Megan Hamp. Stevenson scored on another fielder's choice after a runner was out at second.
Stevenson added four more runs in the top of the seventh to blank Eastern, 7-0. With two outs on the board, Hamp singled to center field. Kat Perea reached first on an error by the third basewoman which advanced Hamp. Heuer was intentionally walked to load the bases. Two more walks brought in Hamp and Perea. Rebecca Henry singled to right field to bring Heuer across home plate while Sierra Stark advanced and scored on an error by the second basewoman.
Game 1 Notes:
- Heuer threw her first career no-hitter at Stevenson as she struck out five and recorded no walks. Heuer moves to 4-1 in the circle to start off the season.
- Bosley went 2 for 4 with a double and one run scored.
- Hamp went 2 for 4 with a RBI, and two runs scored.
- Heuer went 2 for 3 with a RBI and one run scored.
Game 2:
The Mustangs got on the board first after Hamp doubled to right-center and Perea singled for an RBI to bring Hamp across home plate. Eastern fired two home runs to left field to take a 2-1 lead after one inning. The Eagles added their final run of the game in the bottom of the third on a fielder's choice.
Stevenson came within one in the top of the fifth McKenzie Tobler scored on a wild pitch. Jessica Alicea started off the sixth with a single to left field and then advanced to second on a fielder's choice. A walk advanced Alicea then was brought home on a fielder's choice. Emma DeCarli then scored the Mustang's fourth run on a wild pitch after pinch-running for Stark.
Game 2 Notes:
- Heuer earned her first career save at Stevenson as she pitched the final 1.1 innings, recording three strikeouts.
- Jenna Sadowski earned the win in the circle and moves to 3-0 on the season.
- Hamp went 2 for 4 with a double and one run scored.
- Alicea went 1 for 2 with one run scored.
