OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- While neither side able to create much separation, No. 11 Dickinson rattled off a late run to emerge with an 11-10 victory over No. 16 Stevenson in the Mustang Classic on Friday night.

Dickinson (6-0) cashed in on four of the final five goals of the game to erase a third quarter deficit and move in front by just enough to stay unbeaten on the season. Stevenson (3-2) held the 44-37 advantage in shots, but had some key mistakes late in the game that helped jumpstart a scrappy Dickinson side.

Shane Ford led the Mustangs with a hat trick, with Josh Brannan and Cam Leydig adding two each. Jack Scaliti dished out a pair of assists for the Mustangs as Nicholas Mulvey caused five turnovers on the defensive side. Matt Thurston ripped four goas for Dicksinon with Owen Porter adding three more. Patrick Scarborough made 12 saves in his debut start of the 2022 campaign for the Red Devils.

Stevenson and Dickinson played an evenly-played opening quarter with the Mustangs pulling ahead on a pair of goals over the final 1:02.

The Mustangs opened the contest with two early scoring looks before Dickinson rang one off the crossbar off a chance from Matt Thurston at 13:13. The Mustangs continued applying the pressure, but neither side found the scoring column until over 10 minutes into the stanza.

Ryan Coleman opened the scoring with a low shot at 4:37 before the Red Devils responded with the equalizer from Owen Porter. Josh Brannan and Shane Ford capped the first-quarter scoring, the second of which came with just two ticks left in the frame.

Dickinson rattled off the next three markers as the second quarter progressed, pulling ahead at 4-3. Will Farrell, Skyle Schluter and Thurston rifled home the Red Devils' goals in the second. The Mustangs countered with a man-up look as Coleman worked free inside, sending a sharp-angle attempt just beyond the far post with under four minutes remaining in the half.

The Mustangs killed off a slashing infraction and knotted the score moments later with a point-blank shot from Cam Leydig at 1:08 in the second. Off a timeout, the Mustangs executed their offense for another late goal, this time coming from Shane Ford with just seven seconds left, propelling the Mustangs in front at 5-4 before the half.

Stevenson struck quickly in the third as Ford finished a long run down the middle off a Dickinson turnover before ripping a high chance for a 6-4 advantage at 13:03. The Red Devils posted the next two tallies, including a rebound chance from Capp Reynolds that evened the score. Nolan Enneguess won the ensuing faceoff and swiftly moved the Mustangs back in the lead at 10:14.

Racing back in transition, Josh Brannan buried a feed from Scaliti on the left side for an 8-7 cushion. Leydig posted his second of the night and 10th of the season with a quick fake just over one minute later as the Mustangs began to build momentum heading into the final quarter. The Red Devils seized momentum right back with two goals over the final 1:22 of the frame, moving the margin back to even at nine apiece.

Lucas Ingley began the scoring in the fourth quarter, pushing the lead back to Mustangs in a see-saw affair at 10-9. Both sides tightened defensively over the next few minutes before the Red Devils converted on a Mustang miscue for a 10-10 tie with just 3:29 left. Dickinson once again turned defense into offense, moving in front with a goal from Thurston at the 1:47 mark before preserving the win.

Both sides will be faced with a quick turnaround as day two of the Mustang Classic takes place on Saturday, March 19. Stevenson concludes the event by hosting No. 8 Franklin & Marshall at 8:20 p.m.
