Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Stevenson University softball team swept both of their opponents on the final day at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic. The Mustangs downed Suffolk, 11-3 before defeating Westminster (Pa.), 1-0.
Game 1 vs. Suffolk
Stevenson started off their final day in Myrtle Beach in a dominate fashion as they downed Suffolk, 11-3 in five innings. Jordan Fangman started off the for the Mustangs as she doubled to left field and then was brought home as Maddie Bosley tripled to right center. Bosley then scored on an error by the shortstop to take a 2-0 lead. Suffolk came within one of Stevenson in the bottom of the first after an RBI single to center field.
The Mustangs were really rolling in the second as they put up eight runs. Mackenzie Tobler tripled down the left field line for two RBI bringing home Rebecca Henry and Lauren Riesberg. Elizabeth Russo doubled down the left field line to score Tobler. Bosley singled to the shortstop to load the bases with the score, 5-1. On a walk, Russo scored adding the sixth run. Kat Perea and Sierra Stark each added RBI singles to bring Fangman and Bosley across home plate. To end the scoring in the inning, Perea scored on a wild pitch. In the bottom of the second, the Rams brought in two more runs as Stevenson led, 10-3.
Suffolk held their ground in the third not allowing another Stevenson run. With the bases loaded after Stark was walked the Rams took out the runner on third in a fielder's choice. Stevenson tacked on one final run in the fifth after a sacrifice foul out brought Hamp home.
Game 1 Notes:
- Stevenson tallied 15 hits which is their most recorded so far this season.
- Marissa Heuer (3-1) picked up another win in the circle striking out five in five innings.
- Fangman went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and a double.
- Bosely went 2 for 4 with two runs scored, an RBI, and a triple.
- Tobler went 1 for 3 with two RBI, and a triple.
Game 2 vs. Westminster (Pa.)
Pitching proved to be very efficient on both sides of the field. Jillian Haines picked up the win pitching all seven innings, striking out four and only walking one. The Titans pitcher also pitched all seven innings, striking out seven, while allowing one run and walked none. Stevenson totaled six hits while Westminster (Pa.) recorded four. The Mustangs scored the lone run of the game in the top of the seventh. Megan Hamp singled then Perea singled through the left side to advance Hamp. Haines singled to left field advancing Perea and Hamp. A sacrifice foul out to right field brought Hamp across home plate.
Game 2 Notes:
- Hamp went 2 for 3 and scored the winning run.
- Henry went 2 for 2.
- This is the Mustang's best start of the season in nine games since 2018.
The Mustangs will travel to Eastern as they open up MAC Commonwealth play this Saturday, March 19th at 1 PM.
