Kenny Becomes Mustangs All-Time Saves Leader in Shutout Win at Manhattanville

Box Score

RYE, N.Y. -- Stevenson men's hockey junior goalie Ryan Kenny became the program's all-time saves leader in a 2-0 shutout road win against Manhattanville on Saturday afternoon.

Stevenson (13-5-1, 9-3) capped an unbeaten week and avenged an earlier loss against Manhattanville (8-9-3) in a key UCHC contest. It was fitting that Kenny earned a shutout in the process of setting the program's all-time saves mark, previously 1436 held by Jacob Caffrey.

Kenny helped keep the Mustangs in the game before the offense took over with a goal late in the second from Frank Vitucci and an insurance marker from Chad Watt in the third sealed the victory.

  • Despite multiple man advantages for each squad, neither side could light the lamp in the opening period.
  • Vitucci and Seth Bergeron had scoring looks about midway through the period, while Kenny kept the game scoreless with his efforts between the pipes.

  • Kenny and the Mustangs were tested early in the period as Manhattanville came out of the gates with momentum.
  • The junior goalie set the program saves mark with his 12th stop of the afternoon, coming on an Alex Rowella chance at 2:22 in the stanza.
  • Stevenson countered with possession and chances of its own as Nick Dineen and Malcolm Palmer had shot attempts saved from the point about five minutes in.
  • The Mustangs persisted with a flurry of chances before Manhattanville was awarded a power play.
  • Vitucci broke the scoreless tie with a marker at 19:39, finishing off a shot with an assist to Brendan Rylott for a 1-0 edge.

  • The Mustangs netted a big insurance marker just over five minutes into the period as Watt posted his third goal in two games with a short-handed marker. Luke Benitez and Blake Colman were credited with assists on the play as the Mustangs doubled their lead at 2-0.
  • Manhattanville continued ripping chances toward the Stevenson cage, but could not connect as the period melted away.
  • Stevenson killed off all three Manhattanville man advantages to preserve the shuout.
  • Shots were level at 12 for both sides in the period.

  • Kenny now holds the all-time career saves mark at 1458 and counting. He has 542 saves on the season, within striking distance of the all-time mark of 762 set back in 2017-18.
  • The Mustangs shot up the UCHC standings to third place with 21 points, overtaking Nazareth and Manhattanville with two weeks left in the regular season.
  • Vitucci increased his goal total to a team-high eight on the season, finding the back of the net for the first time since December 11.
  • The Mustangs posted their second short-handed goal of the season with Watt's third-period tally.
  • Watt has produced a point in three straight contests, notching four goals in that span.
  • Manhattanville held a slight edge in shots on goal, but could not solve Kenny.
  • Stevenson posted its third shutout victory of the season.
  • Stevenson had played in back-to-back overtime contests prior to the win on Saturday.

  • Stevenson: The Mustangs visit King's (Pa.) on Tuesday, February 8 at 7:00 p.m.
  • Manhattanville: The Valiants host Neumann on Friday, February 11.
