BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Stevenson men's tennis team opened up its spring campaign with a 6-3 triumph over host Moravian in a match held at the Timothy Breidegam Fieldhouse.
Junior JJ Bonta and senior Larry Johnson III won their No. 1 doubles match in dramatic fashion, 8-7 (7-5). In No. 2, junior Ben Porto and senior Lukas Sanidas also picked up a hard-fought victory, taking their match by an 8-7 (7-2) score.
Sophomore Sathwik Madasi and freshman Simeon Smith dropped their match in No. 3 by an 8-4 margin.
Johnson overcame a one-set deficit to pick up his first win of the year in No. 2 singles, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1. Sanidas took his No. 3 singles match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.
Bonta picked up his second win of the year in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, while Smith won a marathon third-set tiebreak to earn his second victory (6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (18-16).
Madasi dropped his No. 5 match in a dramatic third-set tiebreak.
The Mustangs (2-0) resume their non-conference schedule in a road match at Washington College (Md.) on Saturday, March 5 at 5:00 p.m.
