REISTERSTOWN, Md. – For the second consecutive game, the Stevenson men's ice hockey team (1-3) lost to fifth-ranked Utica (2-2) by a score for 3-4.
Senior captain
Austin Master put Stevenson ahead at 12:38 in the first period with his first goal of the season, assisted by
Jack Karlsson and
Aidan Graham. The lead lasted for a minute and a half when Remy Parker deposited a goal for the Pioneers assisted by Lucas Herman and Cameron Patton.
Ryan Kenny notched six saves in the remaining six minutes of the frame to keep the game tied.
In the second period, Utica outshot the Mustangs 11-8.
Jake Roberts blocked a pass to spring an odd-man rush before passing the puck to
Eric Olson who sent the puck past the Pioneer goalie to give the Mustangs a 2-1 lead at 8:19. The Pioneers tied the game at 2-2 with a goal from Brandon Osmundson at 14:09.
A five-minute Mustang penalty gave Utica an extended power play opportunity which the Pioneers capitalized on for a 3-2 lead. Kimball Johnson deposited the lone shot on the power play to give Utica its first lead in regulation of the series.
Stevenson ripped 12 shots in the third period while Utica took 13, all stopped by
Ryan Kenny. The Mustangs capitalized on their fifth power play opportunity with 1:31 remining in the game.
Liam McCanney ripped a shot past the extended glove of the Utica goaltender to tie the game at 3-3 and force an overtime period.
In the three-on-three overtime period, Utica netted the game winner just 1:32 into the frame when Regen Cavanagh found the back of the net.

- Stevenson will return to action with a home-and-home series against Alvernia, kicking off the MAC portion of the calendar. Stevenson will host Alvernia on November 11 at 7pm at the Reisterstown Sportsplex.
