REISTERSTOWN, Md. – The Stevenson men's ice hockey team (2-3, 1-2 UCHCH) survived a comeback from Alvernia (3-1-1, 2-1 UCHC) for a 4-3 victory Friday night at the Reisterstown Sportsplex.

Austin Master put the Mustangs on the board just five minutes into the game with a power play goal assisted by
Aidan Graham and
Aidan McDowell. Stevenson continued an aggressive offensive performance, outshooting the Wolves 13-0 over the next ten minutes. With another power play opportunity, Master put the Mustangs up 2-0 at 16:56. Graham added another assist on the goal.
The Golden Wolves closed the gap with a goal just 40 seconds later when Logan Vande Meerakker sent a puck to the back of the net on just the third shot on goal. Stevenson was quick to answer with a goal from
Aidan Graham at 18:33 with an assist from
Austin Master.
Stevenson continued the offensive pressure into the second period, taking four of the first five shots in the frame before finding the back of the net at the 6:44 mark. Eric Olsen picked up a deflection goal with assists from
Seth Bergeron and
Zach Egber to increase the Stevenson lead to 4-1.
Gabrielle Malek forced a turnover before taking a shot at
Ryan Kenny which he stopped but Malek was able to send home the rebound for an unassisted goal, cutting the Stevenson lead in half. A little over two minutes later Alvernia closed the gap to 4-3 with a goal from Mark Tosti, assisted by Andrew Deschenes.
The third set was closely contested with both goalies defending their crease well. Alvernia upped the offensive pressure in the final five minutes of the frame with a power play and taking three shots on the opportunity, all defended by
Ryan Kenny. With an empty net on the Alvernia end for the final 1:13, the Mustangs never allowed a shot to reach Kenny with
Austin Master and
Jack Karlsson recording blocked shots.
Numbers and Notes
