BIDDEFORD, ME – First year
Aidan McDowell tallied two power play goals as the Stevenson men's ice hockey team scored five unanswered goals to defeat 11
th-ranked University of New England 6-2 Saturday afternoon at the Harold Alfond Forum.
The Nor'easters earned the first tally with a power play goal just 2:26 into the first period when Garrett Devine found the back of the net. The Mustangs responded with a power play goal of their own at 6:29 when MacDowell deposited his first goal of the evening.
John Musella and Brenadan Rylott provided the assists. UNE would finish the first period scoring with another power play goal at the 13:30 mark with a second goal from Devine.
Stevenson swung the shot favor heavily into its favor in the first period, taking 18 shots to juts nine from UNE. Stevenson took 10 of the final 12 shots of the period including three on the power play and one which hit the pipe.
In the second period, Stevenson continued its heavy offensive presence, taking 10 shots to just six from the Nor'easters.
Malcolm Palmer deposited the game tying goal just 1:29 into the second period assisted by
Brendan Rylott and
Alex Rivet. The Mustangs took the lead just 49 seconds later with a goal from
Liam McCanney with assists from
Austin Master and
Anthony Starzi.
The Mustangs weren't done with scoring in the second period. McDowell picked up his second power play tally of the night at 10:07 in the second with an Assist from Liam McCanny and
Aidan Graham.
Zach Egber added one more goal in the second period for the Mustangs at 13:21 with assists from
Evan Beers and
Sam Myers.
Ryan Kenny stopped all six shots from UNE in the middle stanza.
Stevenson mustered 11 shots in the third period while UNE took only six. The final Stevenson tally came at 1:55 in the third off the stick of
Connor MacDonnell.
Graeme McCrory and
Brendan Rylott added the assists.

- Brendan Rylott dished out three assists for a three-point performance, his second multi-point game of the year. (Alvernia 11/12/22).
- Liam McCanney ripped five shots to lead the team and added a goal and an assist for a two-point night, his third of the season.
- Alex Rivet went 8-5 at the face off dot while Graeme McCrory went 7-3 as the Mustangs won the face off battle 34-27.
- Ryan Kenny finished with 19 saves.

- Stevenson hosts Nazareth in a two-game series December 2-3. Both games are set for a 3pm puck drop at Reisterstown Sportsplex.
