UTICA, N.Y. – Junior
Emily Brightbill scored the lone goal for the Stevenson women's ice hockey team (4-3, 2-1 UCHCH) as the Mustangs suffered their first United Collegiate Hockey Conference loss at the hands of Utica (4-1-1, 4-0-1 UCHC) 1-5 Friday afternoon.
The first period saw a total of eight shots off of Mustang sticks while Utica placed 14 on cage. Each goaltender stopped all of the shots they faced in the period, including one power play chance for each squad.
Scoring opened in the second period with a short-handed goal from Utica's Georgiona Santullo at 4:48. Stevenson tallied the game tying goal just under two minutes later when
Emily Brightbill sent home a goal with an assist from
Tea Ferrara at the 6:36 mark. Utica scored three unanswered goals to round out the period off the sticks of Carolyn Whitney, Abby Lillis and Erica Sloan.
Stevenson narrowed the shots margin in the third period, taking six shots on goal to the Pioneer's seven. However, Utica added one final tally at the 8:00 mark off the stick of Carly Stefanini, assisted by Georgiana Santullo.
Numbers and Notes
- The Mustang defense killed off the only power play opportunity for Utica with only 3 shots being take in the chance.
- Tea Ferrara has added an assist in each of the last two games for Stevenson.
