Mustangs Down Neumann 5-3 in UCHC Play

ASTON, Pa. – The Stevenson women's ice hockey team (4-2-0, 2-0-0 UCHCH) received goals from five different players to defeat Neumann (0-6-0, 0-4-0 UCHC) 5-3 Saturday afternoon at the Ice Works.
 
The Mustangs came out swinging taking six of the first seven shots in the game. Neumann ripped three shots in a 20 second span but all were turned aside by Stevenson netminder Mallory Hunt. Stevenson got on the board first with an unassisted goal from Kali Jo Zagula at the 9:04 mark.
 
Just 40 seconds into the second period, Cassie Campbell netted a goal with an assist from Kendall Girnt to increase the Stevenson lead to 2-0. Neumann tallied three more shots in less than a minute before the fourth found the back of the net. Lian Sydorowicz added a goal at 5:21 to cut the Mustang lead in half.
 
Three minutes later, at 9:53, Kaylee Voss added a goal to tie the game with an assist from Gabby Massa. The Knights finished the last 10 minutes of the period with a 9-1 shot advantage.
 
Stevenson regained its lead with a goal from Tea Ferrera at 5:36 into the third period. Katelyn Reid added an assist on the goal. Almost a minute and a half later, the Mustangs increased their lead to 4-2 with a power play goal from Karly Aguirre, assisted by Tea Ferrera.
 
The third period scoring continued at the 10:13 mark when Gabby Manassa added a goal to cut the Stevenson lead to 4-3. Stevenson continued an offensive push with five shots before the sixth from Meghan Croyle found the back of the net to move Stevenson's advantage to 5-3. Neumann again was relentless in scoring chances, taking nine shots to close out the game but all were saved by Mallory Hunt.
