Owings Mills, Md. - The Stevenson men's basketball team outmatched Hartwick College 82-47 in the first day of the Stevenson Tip-Off Classic on Friday night. Graduate student guard Conner Walsh and first year forward Ryan Newell led the Mustangs to victory with nine points reach.
First Half
Graduate student guard McKale Williams got the crowd into the game with an early three-point shot. The Mustangs then went on a 17-4 run over the Hawks with sophomore forward Cameron Smith starting the night going 3-3 in his first 12 minutes. The Mustangs held Hartwick scoreless for a six-minute stretch near the end of the half. Senior forward Bo Wesley and sophomore forward Nate Arrington made their presence felt on defense combining for six blocks and seven rebounds. Stevenson went into the break holding a 23-point lead, 36-13.
Second Half
Stevenson picked up the second half where they left off, stretching the lead to 50-23 with 13:20 remaining. The Mustangs put together 7 steals in that time, collecting 22 points on turnovers. Newell went up for a dunk that electrified the crowd, assisted by Nick Jones at 12:17. Myles Jackson made a driving layup at 4:16 to give the Stevenson first year guard six on the night. First year guard Kendall Seguignol also contributed a layup, putting the Mustangs up 75-40 with 1:54 remaining. The final score was
On Saturday, Nov. 12, the Mustangs will face Maine Maritime Academy who defeated FDU-Florham earlier in the day. Tip off for the Mustangs will be 4 p.m. FDU-Florham and Hartwick will play earlier at 2 p.m. All games will take place in the Owings Mills gymnasium.
