Mustangs Handed Conference Loss at Albright, 4-2

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson University field hockey was handed a conference loss by Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) opponent Albright College (4-8 overall, 1-3 in conference) Saturday afternoon at Gene L. Shirk Stadium. The Mustangs are now 5-7 overall, 1-2 in conference.

Setting the tone for their own offensive focus, Albright first notched the scoreboard five minutes into the first quarter.

Following a corner in the fifth minute, Albright got on the board with a shot from sophomore midfielder Olivia Lorah, assisted by junior midfielder Laurel Gingrich. The Lions continued to push offensively, upping the score to 2-0 seconds later with a shot from Gingrich with sophomore forward Lamya Mejias assisting. A minute later, SU first-year attack Annie Ingersoll found an offensive opportunity, just missing the box. The Mustangs started to gain traction as senior goalkeeper Jamie Fritz saved an attempt in the eighth minute by sophomore forward Chelsea Johnson. Minutes later, a shot from junior midfielder Veronica Maring made the score 2-1. The Lions found two penalty corner opportunities to round out the quarter, with only one attempt from Gingrich.

Seconds into the second quarter, the Lions were given a penalty corner, but Stevenson answered in the 16th minute with a shot that could not get past junior goalkeeper Veronica Heckman. Just over a minute later, Lorah made an off-target attempt that created a chance for the Lions, and 30 seconds later, a shot from senior forward/midfielder Megan Keller assisted by sophomore midfielder/defense Amanda Smith rasied the score to 3-1. Stevenson had no attempts in the rest of the quarter until an off-target shot in the 19th minute from Maring.

In the thid quarter, the Lions found an opportunity in the 40th minute before being denied by Fritz. Determined to come up with an answer to the Lions' push, sophomore midfielder Rylee Leakway found the back of the box 15 seconds before the end of the quarter, bringing the score to 3-2.

Albright opened the final quarter with three penalty corners, seconds from each other, one of which resulted in an off-target attempt by Lorah. The Lions had one more corner before sophomore midfielder/ defense Amanda Smith found the back of the box with the assistance of Lorah in the 54th minute.
