REISTERSTOWN, Md. – Junior
Hannah Labbe found the back of the net with just 1:59 remaining in the overtime period to give the Stevenson women's ice hockey team (1-0-0) a 4-3 win in over time over Trine (0-1-0) Friday afternoon at the Reisterstown Sportsplex.
The Mustangs earned the first tally in halfway through the first period when
Katelyn Reid sent home the season's first goal on a power play at the 10:07 mark.
Cassie Campbell and Kali Jo Zagula added assists on the goal. Trine responded promptly, adding an equal strength equalizer at 13:48 when Grace Canty found the back of the net, assisted by Paige Melicent and Madison Toor.
Stevenson regained the lead, striking early in the second period with a goal from
Maggie Dean.
Emily Brightbill and
Karly Aguirre added the assists. Trine was persistent in finding the equalizer, but
Olivia DeGuire stood tall. Trine earned a power play opportunity and capitalized to knot the game at 2 with a power play goal from Gabrielle Hicks at 14:52 in the second period.
Cassie Campbell put the Mustangs ahead once again at the 1:45 mark in the third period, assisted by Aguire and Brightbill. Another power play goal for the Thunder squared the game at 3 goals a-piece when Anabelle Scriver found the back of the net. Stevenson earned its third power play opportunity of the game at the 16 minute mark but were unable to capitalize, taking just two shots. DeGuire fended off three quality opportunities from Trine in the waning minutes of regulation to keep the game tied at 3.
The Mustangs held the shot advantage in the three-on-three overtime period before
Hannah Labbe found the back of the net for the game-winner.
