OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson men's soccer team made several aggressive offensive pushes, but could not maintain the energy in the second half, dropping an Oct. 19 match to York College 2-1.
The Mustangs remained on top for the duration of the match in shots by a 19 -11 margin. Scoring early in the match, the Mustangs got on the board with a goal in the 11
th minute from
Tiago Silva, with
Ryan Muroff in the assist.
The Mustangs earned their first shot in the 7
th minute. Following a corner, the Mustangs got on the board and went on to rack up 14 shots, though they were unable to break the Spartans' defense.
York created the equalizer in the second half, with a goal in the 70
th minute from Luke Nall and Matthew Martin with the assist. Gaining traction offensively, the Spartans ticked off six shots. A strong shot in the 70
th minute notched a save for Stevenson's
Nolen Olson-Warwick. The game remained tied until York's Jack Mitzfelt (Matthew Martin on the assist) shot the go-ahead goal in the 89
th minute. A minute later, the game ended with a final score of 2-1.
The Mustangs fall to 4-6-6 overall and 3-2-1 in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play. The Spartans are 6-5-3 overall and 1-3-1 in conference play.
