Field Hockey Falls Short in loss to Lebanon Valley, 4-2

Owings Mills, Md. - Stevenson's field hockey comeback fell short in its recent loss to Lebanon Valley College on Friday evening.
 
Mustang goals came from  junior midfielder Meghan Huey and first-year midfielder Cassie Malles. Goal scorers for Lebanon Valley included Sorrell Long, Gracie Johnson (2), and Emily Kline. 
 
The Mustangs started off slowly, as the Dutchmen attacked early. The home team earned five corners in the first 2:38, during which the Mustangs' senior goalkeeper Jamie Fritz made four saves. The Mustangs were unable to register a shot in the quarter. 
 
The Dutch continued to pressure that Mustangs and controlled the game in the second quarter. Long scored her third of the season with 51 seconds left in the first half , getting the home team on the board, 1-0. Lebanon Valley scored another goal 18 seconds later, this time from Johnson, assisted by Elena Tulli.
 
In the third, the home team recorded back-to-back corners, tallying one shot.
 
The Mustangs cracked the scoreboard early in the fourth quarter with a goal by Huey, her fourth of the season, assisted by Haley Palmer at 47:17. Malles quickly tied the game with her first goal of the season at 49:03, assisted by Nicole Ziegler. The Mustangs were unable to hold the lead for long, as the Dutchmen countered with two quick goals of their own, the first from Long at 52:03 and the second by Johnson, assisted by Emily Kline, at 55:29.
 
The Mustangs fall to 6-8 (2-2 in conference) following the loss. They are next in action on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 4 p.m. as they host Messiah. The Dutchmen improve to 7-7 (3-2) and will travel to Alvernia University on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m.
