OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Junior
Rileigh Kimball tallied a career-high five aces as the Stevenson women's volleyball (18-2, 5-0 MACC) team defeated Hood (5-12, 1-5) in straight sets on Senior Night to remain perfect in MAC Commonwealth play Tuesday evening at Owings Mills gymnasium. Set scores were 25-12, 25-13 and 25-12.
In the first set, the sides battled through six tie scores and three lead changes before the Mustangs embarked on a five-point run which included three aces from
Haley Hoover to gain a 10-6 advantage.
Giulia Viglietta and
Sarah Straub paired up for a block to extend the Stevenson lead to 12-5.
Stevenson added a four-point run which included four kills from
Rileigh Kimball to leverage a 19-10 advantage. Stevenson finished the opening frame with a six-point tear polished off by a block from the duo of
Haley Hoover and
Molly Joyner for a 25-12 victory.
Stevenson led the second set wire-to-wire picking up a 71 percent sideout percentage. The Mustangs sprinted out to a 14-6 advantage on the heels of a three-point run. The Mustangs increased their lead to 19-10 with back-to-back kills from Viglietta followed by back-to-back kills from Kimball. Stevenson finished the set on a 6-2 run to win the frame 25-13.
Stevenson used a 14-point run to open up a 15-3 advantage to start the third frame.
Rileigh Kimball notched four aces in the stretch while
Shannon Baily and
Haley Hoover added three kills each. Stevenson finished the set on a 6-2 run to win the final set 25-12.
