Mustangs Tally Second Straight Conference Win, 2-0, at Hood College

FREDERICK, Md. – Stevenson men's soccer finished on top 2-0 against Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) opponent Hood College. The Mustangs improve to 4-5-5 overall and 3-1 in conference while the Blazers fall to 3-8-2 overall and 0-3 in conference.
 
The Mustangs ensured their victory within the first 15 minutes of the match. Junior forward Edson DeMata Ribeiro got on the board first in the eighth minute. He also led the team with five shots in total with three on goal. Senior defense Chris Gonzales earned his first goal of the season, rounding out the match to its final score in the 12th minute. Senior goalkeeper Kristian Slaby also earned himself six saves.
 
The first half opened with an attempt in the second minute by SU sophomore defender Bryant Seivers into the hands of the Blazers' sophomore goalkeeper Nick Humphries. Gaining possession as the clock ticked on, DeMata Ribeiro netted the ball early in the seventh minute. The second and remaining goal of the match came in the 12th minute from Gonzales with assistance from senior defense Iliass Zouita. Shortly after, Mustang junior midfielder Andy Portillo had an on-target attempt in the 13th minute that did not get past Humphries. The Blazers went on  an offensive push, with four attempts in two minutes, which were saved by Slaby. DeMata Ribeiro answered with an off-target attempt in the 28th minute. Humphries notched two more saves in the half.
 
To ensure their lead, DeMata Ribeiro made the first attempt in the second half in the 47th minute, with an answer from the Blazers' sophomore forward Luke Hammer in the 51st minute.  Senior forward Tiago Silva had a shot in the 56th minute, answered by a shot from junior midfielder JP Wiemann. In the 68th minute, the Mustangs'  junior midfielder Saul Martinez' shot was just off target. Despite a scoreless second half, the Mustangs remained on top in total shots ( 24-11) with the Blazers answering in saves by a 12-6 margin.
