Box Score GENESEO, N.Y. -- Stevenson men's hockey fell to second-ranked SUNY Geneseo by a 3-0 tally on Friday night at the Ira S. Wilson Arena.
Stevenson (9-3-1) saw its six-game winning streak come to an end in the new year, while SUNY Geneseo pushes its record to 12-1-1 behind a pair of goals in the opening period.
- Off a two-one-one scoring attempt, Stevenson drew a slashing penalty for the game's opening power-play chance. It was Ryan Kenny that needed to be sharp early on the man-advantage for the Mustangs, staying square to a shorthanded attempt. Mac Lowry uncorked a slap shot from the left point that was blocked aside on the power-play opportunity.
- Off a faceoff win, precision passing led to a one-time goal from Justin Cmunt just above the left circle for a 1-0 Knights lead. Liam McCanney and Brendan Rylott each had quality looks on the ensuing power-play chance for the Mustangs as goalie Chris Perna was up to the task.
- Burying a loose-puck rebound chance off a scramble in front, SUNY Geneseo converted on the giveaway by taking a 2-0 advantage nearly 13 minutes into the opening stanza.
- The Knights opened up a 3-0 lead with a goal at the 5:22 mark of the second. Ryan Patrick and Frank Vitucci had quick attempts just over one minute later for the Mustangs.
- Eric Olson exited the penalty box and quickly laid a pass across to Patrick, who just missed a shortside shot at 11:38.
- Stevenson applied pressure early on the man advantage after a cross-checking infraction on the Knights, which included a pair of short-range looks from Olson. A few minutes later, Kenny tracked a shot and blocked it aside into the netting at 17:12.
- Liam McCanney was impressive in the faceoff dot, adding a scoring chance in the final minute of the second.
- Stevenson generated several scoring chances about five minutes into the period after cycling the puck and maintaining possession in the offensive end.
- Stevenson put its penalty kill to work once again as Kenny made multiple quality saves on a 5-on-3 about 13 minutes into the period.

- Geneseo outshot the Mustangs by a 19-7 count in the opening period to build a 2-0 edge. The Knights maintained the big advantage in shots, leading 31-13 through two periods.
- Head coach Dominic Dawes did not make the trip with the team to New York because of COVID-19 protocols. Assistants Tom Peffall and Daunte Abercomie will be tasked with handling bench duties for the Mustangs on the road swing.
