Stauffer, Melbardis tally 9 Kills to Lift Mustangs Over Lancaster Bible

Lancaster, Pa. – Stevenson men's volleyball seniors Tanner Stauffer and Aleks Melbardis added nine kills each as Stevenson (5-3) defeated previously undefeated Lancaster Bible (6-1) in straight sets Wednesday night at Horst Athletic Center. Set Scores were 25-23, 25-12, 25-13.

  • The Mustangs and Chargers, who are both receiving votes in the latest AVCA Division III Coaches Poll, traded tallies before the Mustangs could gain separation with a 3-0 streak capped by Tim Flanagan kill aided by Justin Novoa at the 8-5 mark.
  • The Chargers responded with a streak of their own before committing a service error to give the lead back to Stevenson at 9-8.
  • The sides traded points until Stevenson earned a margin at 14-11 on an attack error.
  • Lancaster Bible grouped three points together to narrow the margin but could not overtake the Stevenson lead.
  • Aleks Melbardis added a kill to nudge the Stevenson led to 23-21.
  • Aiden O'Brien advanced the lead to 24-22 on a kill assisted by Novoa.

  • The Mustangs nearly lead set two wire-to-wire jumping to a 3-1 lead after dropping the first point.

  • The Mustangs will take a well earned break over the weekend and return to action next Wednesday, February 2 when they head to Arlington, Va. to square off with Marymount (Va.).
