Box Score 2 ALTOONA, Pa. - The Stevenson men's volleyball team fell 3-0 to No. 7 Southern Virginia Friday evening at Adler Auxiliary Gym in Altoona, Pa. Set scores were 25-18, 25-21, 25-19.
- Stevenson (3-2) garnered the lead early but could not shake through five tied scores to gain separation from No. 7 Southern Va. (1-0).
- Stevenson extended a lead to 5-3 following a Tim Flanagan kill and attack error by the Knights.
- The Mustangs and Knights traded kills to bring the score to 4-6.
- Southern Va. went on a 4-0 run to gain the lead and separation the Mustangs could not overcome.
- Kills by Aidan O'Brien and Flanagan brought Stevenson within two at the 14-12 mark.
- A block by Southern Va. opened the lead back up to 17-13 before Mustang attack errors widened the margin to 19-13.
- The set was sealed with a service error.
- Stevenson jumped to an 11-7 margin following kills by Aleks Melbardis and Tanner Stauffer.
- The Mustangs widened the lead to 15-10 with another Melbardis kill and Southern Va. attack error.
- Stauffer picked up another kill to stretch the lead to 18-13.
- Southern Va. rattled off a 7-0 run, which included three aces, to take the lead.
- The run was halted by a Stauffer kill with the Mustangs trailing 20-19.
- Southern Va. took the next three points before committing a service error.
- Elliot De La Torre picked up a kill to tighten the match to 24-21 but the set was lost with an attack error.
- The Mustangs again picked up an early lead in the third set but it was quickly lost to a 6-0 run by the Knights.
- Stauffer stalled the run with a kill.
- Stevenson narrowed the margin to 10-9 following an O'Brien kill, assisted by Justin Novoa.
- Stevenson clawed to 18-17 but a 6-0 run by Southern Va. stretched the lead to 23-17.
- The match was sealed with a service ace.
- Novoa dished out 27 assists, tying a career-high set against No 8 SUNY New Paltz (1/14/22).
- Stauffer added 12 kills, tying a season high set against Cal Lutheran (1/14/22).
- Stevenson continues its road trip to face Mount Union and No. 3 Dominican (Ill) during the Juniata Tournament on Saturday, January 22.
