Box Score READING, Pa. -- Stevenson men's basketball went cold down the stretch as host Albright defeated the Mustangs by an 81-64 count on Saturday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth action.
Stevenson (8-6, 4-4 MAC) was held scoreless over the last 2:14 of game action, shooting just 30% from the field over the final 20 minutes. Khalil Richard paced the Mustangs with 17 points, posting 12 before halftime, while Jalin Jordan and Jalen Jacox added 10 points apiece.
Albright (7-8, 3-4 MAC) outpaced the Mustangs over the final 20 minutes, ending the game with a 9-1 run over the final three minutes. Troy Smoot led the charge for the Lions with a double-double and game-high 20 points. Deion Booker notched 18 points, while Sidney Brown chipped in 15 points for the hosts.
- In a back-and-forth opening half, neither side could gain much separation beyond a quick start for Albright. Scoring the opening four points of the afternoon, the Lions surged ahead 7-2 before the Mustangs responded with seven of the next 10 points, leveling the score at 10. Bo Wesley began the Mustang run with a layup before Khalil Richard cashed in on consecutive three-pointers.
- Sean Miller pushed the Albright advantage to 17-2 with a triple before the Mustangs responded. Nate Arrington converted a bucket through contact, finishing the three-point play at the line with 11:14 remaining.
- Jalin Jordan handed the Mustangs a one-point edge on the next offensive possession, part of a 7-0 outburst for a 24-19 lead. Things remained tightly contested over the next few minutes with Jalen Jacox providing some timely offense for the Mustangs.
- Each side cooled off a bit near the latter moments of the half as Albright clung to its narrow lead over the final few minutes. McKale Williams made two foul shots before Richard pushed the Mustangs ahead, 36-35, with two foul shots of his own.
- The Lions were held scoreless over a 1:47 span as Stevenson chipped away to take control of the lead. Off a technical foul assessed to Stevenson, Sidney Brown converted twice at the line as Albright took a 37-36 edge into the locker room.
- A 16-4 run pushed Albright ahead for a lead it would not relinquish over the first 4:51 of the second half. Jordan canned a triple, slicing the deficit to 10 with 14:01 showing.
- Booker sunk a three before a cold stretch for both sides. Dylan McGinley converted for a 60-45 Albright lead, which later swelled to 20 at 68-48 for the largest advantage of the afternoon.
- Ronald Ayers kickstarted a stretch of seven-straight points for the Mustangs, but Albright was able to maintain its double-digit advantage and tick down the clock.
- Richard fired in a game-high 12 points in the opening half, posting his 10th double-digit scoring game of the season.
- The Lions posted a 22-8 edge in fastbreak points.
- Bo Wesley returned to the lineup for the Mustangs on Saturday, posting four points, three rebounds and three assists.
