STEVENSON, Md. - The Stevenson men's tennis team downed visiting Marymount (Va.) by a 5-4 score in its lone team match of the fall season.
Senior Larry Johnson III and junior Ben Porto lost a hard-fought match in No. 1 doubles by an 8-7 (10-0) score. In No. 2, senior Lukas Sanidas and freshman Simeon Smith picked up an 8-7 (5-0) victory for the Mustangs. Stevenson won in No. 3 doubles via forfeit.
In singles play, both Porto (No. 1) and Johnson III (No. 2) fell in straight sets by scores of 7-5, 6-3 and 6-2, 7-5. Sanidas took a one-set lead in No. 3, but would eventually fall by a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) margin.
Junior JJ Bonta dominated his No. 4 opponent by a 6-0, 6-0 score, while Smith won his No. 5 match in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (3-0).
The Mustangs won in No. 6 singles via forfeit.
Stevenson competes next at the three-day ITA Regional Championships, hosted by Mary Washington, starting on Friday, October 1.
