Top-Seeded Mustangs Fall to Second-Seeded York in MAC Commonwealth Title Game

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The seventh-ranked Stevenson men's lacrosse team was shutout for the first time in program history as sixth-ranked York (Pa.) snapped the Mustangs winning streak to claim the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth title, 11-0, Saturday evening at Mustang Stadium.

  • The Spartans (14-1) took the early lead on their second possession of the game as Chandler Schmidt scored an unassisted goal.
  • On the first two possessions by the Mustangs (8-1), the visitors forced back-to-back turnovers before the hosts had a shot blocked out of bounds.
  • Senior Marc Poust came up with a save up high before turning it over on the clear attempt, leading to the second goal of the night by York.
  • With 5:11 remaining in the opening quarter, the Spartans leading scorer, Brendan O'Sullivan, fired a quick shot in front after a feed from Dylan Wolf to give the visitors a 3-0 lead.
  • At the end of the quarter, Stevenson was whistled for an offsides call, giving the visitors the first man-up opportunity of the game.

  • York outshot Stevenson, 43-21, and won nine of the 12 face-offs.
  • The Mustangs had a season-high 24 turnovers.
  • It is the first lose in MAC Commonwealth play for the Mustangs, falling to 76-1.
  • It is the second time this season that the Mustangs were held scoreless in the opening quarter against York.
  • The last time Stevenson was shutout in the opening half was on May 20, 2012 versus Salisbury while the Mustangs were shutout in the second half in 2018 at Lynchburg.
