CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Stevenson men's tennis team dropped a tight match to non-conference foe DeSales by a 5-4 margin. The loss is the Mustangs' (1-1) first of the season.
Senior Ray McDermott and sophomore Ben Porto's match in No. 1 doubles went to a tiebreaker, but they would eventually fall 8-7 (7-4). The loss drops their doubles record to 1-1 on the year.
Senior James Waychoff and junior Lukas Sanidas picked up their second win in No. 3 doubles on the year (first was via default) by an 8-6 margin, while senior Richie Abruscato and junior Larry Johnson III dropped their first match of the year by an 8-3 score.
Porto took the first set of his No. 1 singles match to a tiebreaker, but he would eventually drop the set and the match by a score of 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.
McDermott improved his record to 2-0 on the season with a 7-5, 6-0 victory in No. 2, while Abruscato picked up the win in his No. 4 match, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8).
Johnson III took the first set of his No. 3 match, but would eventually lose the match in a third set tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4).
Sanidas picked up a dominant victory in his No. 6 match, 6-1, 6-2.
The Mustangs travel to Hood next Saturday, April 10 for another non-conference road match. First serve is set for 11:00 a.m.
