Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Highlighted by 13 saves by senior Marc Poust, the 12th-ranked Stevenson men's lacrosse team erased a three-goal first half deficit en route to an 11-8 MAC Commonwealth victory over No. 4 York (Pa.) to remain unbeaten on the season Friday evening on Senior Night at Mustang Stadium. The loss is the first for York in 11 games this season.
- The Mustangs (6-0, 4-0 MAC Commonwealth) won the opening face-off with junior Cam Leydig firing a shot off the right post on the first shot attempt of the game.
- Down the other end, Brendan O'Sullivan hit a shot off the post before Eric Ranck gave the Spartans (10-1, 5-1 MAC Commonwealth) the early lead at the 10:19 mark.
- On the ensuing possession, Leydig once again got a shot past Jack Michael only to hit off the post.
- Senior Jacob Doster recorded the first shot on net in transition before classmate John Harrington put a shot on net a few minutes later.
- With the clock winding down in the quarter, Rnack threw the ball on net that was grabbed by O'Sullivan and backhanded in for the score with one second remaining.
- Stevenson had the first man-up opportunity of the contest after senior Shiloh Shassian won the opening face-off of the quarter but the Mustangs turned the ball over.
- With York doing a 10-man ride, senior Marc Poust fired a shot from 60-yards away that just barely went wide right of the net.
- At the 8:41 mark, senior Jacob Tatum got the hosts on the board, putting the ball in the upper right corner, after junior Connor Nelson found him from behind the net.
- The Mustangs were called for their first penalty of game but Poust made a save on the lone shot before senior Tyler Sullivan picked off a pass after the penalty expired.
- At the 3:07 mark, Dylan Wolf found a cutting O'Sullivan to give the Spartans a two-goal lead before Wolf pushed the lead to 4-1 after netting a man-up goal just 34 seconds later.
- Just 1:18 into the second half, Nelson fed Tatum in front of the net as Tatum went behind-the-back to get the Mustangs back within two.
- Senior Lewis Anania scored from the left wing at the 10:23 mark to cut the hosts deficit to one. Leydig picked up the assist.
- Tatum tied the game with his third goal of the game, scoring to the upper right corner from the left wing, after getting a pass from junior Luke Ensor in transition.
- An unassisted goal by junior Ryan Coleman with 3:39 remaining gave the Mustangs their first lead of the game.
- With one second remaining, Coleman went behind-the-back after sophomore Dillon Linhardt fed him right on the right post for a 6-4 lead.
- The Spartans stopped Stevenson's 5-0 run as Will Harnick scored after the visitors won the opening face-off of the quarter.
- With two seconds remaining in the Mustangs man-up opportunity, Harrington split his defenders for his first goal of the night and to reclaim the hosts two-goal advantage.
- Leydig netted his first goal of the game at the 10:07 mark, scoring between the legs of Michael, on an assist from Tatum.
- After the Mustangs killed off a one minute penalty, the hosts had a man-up advantage for one minute with Nelson scoring low on the second straight assist by Tatum.
- Following the 12th save of the game by Poust, O'Sullivan picked off a pass right in front of the cage, scoring unassisted and getting the visitors back within two.
- Linhardt netted the third man-up goal of the game for the Mustangs at the 2:40 mark before Harrington scored 12 seconds later for an 11-7 lead.
- York outshot Stevenson, 43-32, and held a slight 30-29 edge in ground balls.
- The Mustangs finished 3-for-5 on the man-up while the Spartans went 1-for-3.
- Under head coach Paul Cantabene, Stevenson improves to 15-32 against opponents ranked in the top five. The Mustangs also improve to 206-10 when holding opponents to under 10 goals.
- The Mustangs remain unbeaten in MAC Commonwealth play, improving to 74-0 overall and 60-0 in the regular season.
- It was the second time this season the Mustangs have been shutout in a quarter after not scoring in the first quarter.
- Meanwhile, it was the first time York was shutout in a quarter and the fifth time in six games Stevenson has shutout an opponent in a quarter after the Spartans failed to score in the third.
- The last time the Mustangs were held to just one goal in the opening half came against York in 2018 in the Mustang Classic.
- Tatum extended his point streak to 40 games while recording his 12th career five-plus point game and fourth this season. It is also his 15th career game with at least three goals.
- Defensively, senior Jacob Magaw recorded four caused turnovers and four ground balls.
- At the face-off X, junior Andrew Torpe went 8-for-15.
- Stevenson concludes the regular season on Tuesday, April 27 when the Mustangs travel to Hood for a MAC Commonwealth contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
