STEVENSON, Md. - The Stevenson men's tennis team picked up its first conference win in an 8-1 rout of visiting Messiah at the Greenspring Courts.
Senior Ray McDermott and junior Larry Johnson III earned a hard-fought 8-7 victory in No. 1 doubles, giving them their first win as a duo this season. Senior Richie Abruscato and sophomore Ben Porto cruised by their No. 2 oppenents by an 8-2 score. Senior James Waychoff and junior Lukas Sanidas won their third match of the year in No. 3 in a dominating 8-2 win.
McDermott improved his singles record to 3-0 after taking his No. 1 match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Sophomore Ben Porto picked up a 6-2, 6-4 win in No. 2.
Abruscato won his No. 4 match by a 6-3, 6-0 margin, improving his record to 3-0 on the year.
Sanidas and Waychoff dominated in their No. 5 and 6 matches by scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0.
The Mustangs' (2-1, 1-0 MAC) next match takes place on Wednesday, April 21 against Eastern at 3:00 p.m.
