Mustangs End Regular Season With 6-3 Victory at Nazareth

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Stevenson men's ice hockey team had six different players find the back of the net as the Mustangs skated to a, 6-3, United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory over Nazareth Saturday afternoon at Bill Gray's IcePlex.

  • The Golden Flyers (0-10-0, 0-10-0 UCHC) got on the board first as Henry McKinney beat sophomore Ryan Kenny on the seventh shot of the game.
  • Nazareth went on the power play following the goal before having a five-on-three advantage for 18 seconds. Kenny stopped all three shots he faced.
  • Just two seconds after the second power play expired, the hosts took a 2-0 lead at the 12:18 mark.

  • Just 44 seconds into the period, first year Mac Lowry got the Mustangs (10-2-1, 7-1-1 UCHC) on the board on an assist from junior Ryan Patrick.
  • At the 3:50 mark, Nazareth reclaimed its three-goal lead with an even-strength tally.
  • The Mustangs went on the power play at the 8:13 mark and scored with 15 seconds remaining as senior Carl Lyden found the back of the net.
  • First year Evan Beers and senior Houston Wilson dished out the helpers.
  • Beers found the back of the net at the 13:20 mark to tie the game at, 3-3, getting an assist from junior Luke Benitez.
  • Late in the period, Stevenson killed off a penalty with senior Aaron Murray recording a blocked shot.

  • The Mustangs started the third period the same as the second, as first year Matt Dougherty gave the visitors the lead on assists from Lyden and Lowry.
  • Stevenson went on the power play after a high-sticking penalty but did not get a shot on net.
  • At the 13:21 mark, first year Blake Colman gave the visitors a two-goal lead with classmate Zach Egber dishing out the assist.
  • The visitors went on the penalty kill while Nazareth pulled the goaltender for a six-on-four advantage but first year Eric Olson scored shorthanded on the empty net.

  • Nazareth outshot Stevenson, 33-32, including, 15-5, in the first period.
  • The Mustangs finished 1-for-5 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.
  • With the win, Stevenson improves to 5-2-2 in the series, including 3-0-1 in the last four games.
  • Lowry has a goal in three straight games while Dougherty has a three-game point streak.
  • Kenny finished with 27 saves in net.

  • Stevenson secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming UCHC tournament, and will host a quarterfinal contest on Wednesday, March 31 at 4:30 p.m.
