Mustangs Sweep Lebanon Valley, Win on Ten Innings in Game Two

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Stevenson softball team hosted Lebanon Valley on Saturday afternoon. The Mustangs swept the Dutchmen, in game one, 6-5, and in game two, going to 10 innings, 1-0. 

  • WP: Morghan Fulton (3-1-0); LP: Sarah Musselman (2-1).
  • Lebanon Valley (3-3, 3-3 MACC) added three runs at the top of the first inning, with Jen Kaufman on second, Sam Burns singled to center field to Kaufman to advance to third and then score on a throw. 
  • With just one out, the Dutchmen had Lindsey McCurdy advance to third on an error leading for Burns to score. Later, Truitt grounded out to second base for McCurdy to score and unearned run, 3-0.
  • Stevenson (7-3, 4-2 MACC) collected one run at the bottom of the first inning, with one out, and Jordan Fangman when Morghan Fulton singled to the middle to come within two of the Dutchmen.
  • The Dutchmen extended their lead by four at the top of the third inning, Kaufmann and Burns scoring again for the Dutchmen.
  • With two outs, Maddie Bosley scored at the bottom of the third when Fulton singled down the left field.
  • Tying the game 5-5 at the bottom of the fifth for Stevenson was with two outs, with Kayla Briles on third, Kat Perea singled to shortstop for Briles to earn a run. Megan Hamp was on first and Perea on third, a Sierra Stark double to center field allowed Hamp and Perea to score for the Mustangs.
  • To win the first game, 6-5, Perea singled another run for Briles while she was on third.

  • WP: Marissa Heuer (3-0); LP: Jordan Walter (1-1).
  • The game remained scoreless until the 10th inning. 
  • At the bottom of the 10th inning, Stevenson scored to win the game. With one out, Fulton was on third, Hamp reached on a fielder's choice for Fulton to score, 1-0.

  • The Mustangs totaled 16 hits on the afternoon.
  • Five different players scored runs in both games.
  • Fulton, Perea, and Stark each had two RBI's.
  • Fulton had five pitching strikeouts while Heuer had six.

  • The Mustangs travel to Lebanon Valley for a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader on Sunday, March 21 set for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at LVC Softball Park.
  • Stevenson will host Arcadia on Saturday, March 27 for two games at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at Weinberg-Fine Stadium before traveling to Arcadia on Sunday, March 28 for two games at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
