Mustangs Sweep Messiah in MAC Commonwealth Doubleheader

GRANTHAM, Pa. - Stevenson sophomore Kat Perea collected three runs while seven different players scored as the Mustangs swept Messiah in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Starry Softball Field.

  • Stevenson 6, Messiah 2; WP: Marissa Heuer (2-0), LP: Rebekah Pais (0-1).
  • Messiah (2-2, 2-2 MACC) took the lead at the bottom of the third inning, with Karlee Stocksdal on first, Alexa Burger homered to send both of them in for a run, 2-0.
  • Stevenson (5-3, 2-2 MACC) collected one run at the top of the fourth, with one out and Kat Perea on third, Sierra Stark flied out to left field on a sacrifice fly for Perea to score.
  • At the top of the sixth, the Mustangs had the bases loaded, Stark doubled to the left center to send in Perea and Jessica Alicia for two runs.
  • Faith Rhodes pinch ran for Stark, and on a wild pitch, Hamp scored for Stevenson, 4-2.
  • Later, Rhodes scored for the Mustangs on a Maddie Bosley fly out to right field and sent McKenzie Tobler to third. To then have two outs, a Kayla Briles single to center field sent in Tobler for an unearned run, 6-2.

  • Stevenson 4, Messiah 0; WP: Morghan Fulton (2-1), LP: Brynne Baker (1-1).
  • At the top of the third inning and with just one out, the Mustangs had Fulton on second and Perea on first, Megan Hamp singled to center field for Fulton to score a run for Stevenson, 1-0.
  • Later in the third inning, bases loaded with Stark, Hamp, and Perea, Alex DiGrande singled to center field for Fulton to score for the Mustangs, 2-0.
  • Maddie Bosley singled to center field for Hamp to score a run for the Mustangs to total for three runs in the third inning for Stevenson.
  • The Mustangs continued to hold the Falcons scoreless into the fourth inning when Kayla Briles stole second base to later score on a Perea single to right field, 4-0.

  • The Mustangs totaled 21 hits on the afternoon.
  • Seven different players scored runs in the Mustangs two games.
  • Stark collected three RBIs in game one.
  • Perea has collected nine runs in the last eight games.
  • Briles has seven stolen bases this season.
  • Heur had 10 pitching strikeouts in game two while Fulton had five in game one.

  • Stevenson is back in action next weekend against MAC Commonwealth opponent Lebanon Valley. Stevenson will host the Dutchmen on Saturday, March 20 at 1:00 and 3:00 for a doubleheader before traveling to Annville, Pa. on Sunday, March 21 for a doubleheader against the Dutchmen at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. at LVC Softball Park.
