Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Stevenson men's basketball placed three players in double digits as the Mustangs charged past Clarks Summit for a 75-51 victory on Friday night inside Owings Mills Gymnasium.
Stevenson (1-1) received 12 points from Nate Arrington, while Bo Wesley and KJ Holton added 11 each. Clarks Summit (1-3) shot just 36.4% for the game despite placing three of its own in double figures.
- Both sides started slowly as Clarks Summit moved ahead, 6-4, just over five minutes into the opening half.
- Arrington sunk a jumper for an 8-7 Stevenson edge, but the Defenders responded with a triple at the 12:58 mark.
- Holton, who returned to the lineup on Friday, canned a straightaway three just moments later. The Mustangs clamped down on defense, while Arrington converted inside to prompt a Clarks Summit timeout at 10:55.
- Wesley finished a stickback chance for a 26-16 lead as the Mustangs maintained the advantage. Off a miss, Clarks Summit looked to push the pace, but Cameron Smith raced back for a thunderous block. On the ensuing trip up the floor, Wesley and Holton worked a picture-perfect pick-and-roll chance, leading to a dunk in the middle of the paint.
- The Mustangs closed out the first-half scoring with a pair of foul shots from Jalen Jacox for a 39-26 lead.
- Davon Jones anchored the Stevenson scoring attack in the opening moments of the second half, notching the first 10 points for the hosts over a four-minute span. Jones capped the Mustang surge with an and-one foul shot for a 48-29 advantage.
- Both sides went cold until Jacox converted a putback, ballooning the Stevenson lead to 50-31.
- The Defenders began pushing forward, trimming the Stevenson lead to 14 at 55-41. Off a timeout, the Mustangs answered with a 6-0 spurt, which widened the margin to 20.
- Stevenson stayed in front, and a pair of layups separated by just 10 seconds made it 73-49. Arrington converted once more underneath as Stevenson melted away the clock.
- The Mustangs racked up eight blocks once again on Friday, using a combo of size and skill in the low block. Wesley and Smith combined for seven of the Mustangs' eight blocks on the night.
- Stevenson committed just 12 turnovers on the night, while Clarks Summit had 23.
