Mustangs Tie Nazareth, Lost Extra Conference Point

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Stevenson men's ice hockey senior Bruce Stachitas netted his second goal of the season as the Mustangs finished in a 1-1 overtime tie versus Nazareth Friday evening at Bill Gray's Iceplex. The Golden Flyers earned the extra conference point in the three-on-three overtime.

  • The Mustangs (15-5-2, 12-2-1 UCHC) earned a power play just 2:54 into the contest, firing a pair of shots on net early in the man advantage.
  • Just past the midway point of the period, the Golden Flyers (9-10-3, 6-8-1 UCHC) went on their first power play but it was the visitors who had two of the three shots during the two minutes.
  • Stevenson went back on the man advantage just a few minutes after successfully killing one, this time only getting one shot on net.

  • The visitors made use of its third power play attempt, this one coming 2:23 into the period.
  • On the sixth shot on net during the power play, Stachitas got one past Michael Tilford, with juniors Houston Wilson and Carl Lyden picking up the assists.
  • Just 1:23 later, the Mustangs were whistled for their second penalty of the game but the lone shot by Ray Falso hit off the pipe.
  • Twenty seconds after Nazareth's power play ended, the hosts went back to the penalty box. This time Tilford stopped both shots by the Mustangs.
  • Back on even strength, senior Colin Woods was a couple inches shy of doubling Stevenson's lead as he saw his shot hit pipe.
  • Freshman Ryan Kenny stopped six straight shots by the Golden Flyers before the visitors fired four consecutive shots on net.
  • At the 16:49 mark, Nazareth earned a power play and needed just 32 seconds before knotting the game at, 1-1.

  • Stevenson won the first couple of face-offs to start the third period, firing a shot on net on each of the first two shifts.
  • The Mustangs kept the offensive pressure, testing Tilford with three consecutive shots, including a pair by junior Matt Cappucci.
  • Nazareth recorded five of the final shots on net of regulation, including the last two.

  • The Golden Flyers had a slight edge in the five-on-five overtime, outshooting Stevenson, 7-3, including 3-2 on shots on net.
  • In the extra three-on-three overtime for the extra conference point, Nazareth scored just 39 seconds into the frame.

  • Stevenson outshot Nazareth, 45-37, including, 23-17 in the second period.
  • Both teams finished with a power play goal.
  • Kenny stopped 36 shots while his counterpart Tilford made 44 saves on 45 shots.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Saturday, February 15 when the Mustangs travel to No. 4 Utica for a UCHC contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
  • Both Stevenson and Utica are tied for second in the UCHC standings.
