Box Score 2 OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The No. 12 Stevenson University men's volleyball team earned a pair of four-set victories on day two of the Stevenson Invitational Saturday at Owings Mills Gymnasium. The Mustangs topped Loras 3-1, then overcame a first-set loss to pull out a 3-1 win over Marymount (Va.).
- Set scores were 25-21, 25-19, 19-25, 25-18.
- Stevenson (7-2) opened the second set with four straight points after prevailing in the first set.
- A kill by Aleks Melbardis gave the Mustangs a 17-9 lead.
- Loras (3-1) chipped away and pulled within 21-17, before Stevenson scored four of the final six points. A Melbardis kill ended the set.
- The Duhawks jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the third set and hit .522 in the frame en route to the win.
- Stevenson countered by hitting .478 in the fourth, opening up a 13-8 lead.
- Loras pulled within four late, 22-18, before a Melbardis kill, a block by Nate Reynolds and Tanner Stauffer, and a Kyle Bosko service ace closed out the match.
- Stevenson hit .321 for the match, while Loras hit .161.
- Melbardis hit .412 and totaled 20 kills and five blocks.
- Logan Smiley racked up 16 kills.
- The Mustangs totaled 11 blocks, with Bosko and Reynolds each finishing with five.
- Derek Tangorra registered 17 digs, while Peyton Ranck had 48 assists.
- Set scores were 23-25, 25-17, 26-24, 30-28.
- Stevenson trailed 18-13 in the first set before tying the set 23-23 on a block by Bosko and Smiley.
- Marymount (6-6) recorded back-to-back kills to take the first set.
- Leading 11-10 in the second, the Mustangs scored six straight points to take a 17-10 lead on a Smiley service ace.
- The hosts led 24-21 in the third before the Saints stormed back with three straight points to tie the set.
- A Marymount service error, followed by a Stauffer kill, put the Mustangs up 2-1.
- Marymount was serving for set point up 24-23 in the fourth, but a Smiley kill tied things back up.
- Stevenson staved off set point three more times before taking a 28-27 lead on the second of back-to-back Smiley kills.
- The Saints tied the set 28-28, the 16th tie of the frame, but Stevenson went back in front on a Melbardis kill.
- Melbardis and Bosko came together on a block to close out the match.
- Stevenson hit .314 in the match, while the Saints hit .258.
- Smiley was one of four Mustangs with double-digit kills, racking up 21. He also had eight digs.
- Stauffer tallied 18 kills and eight digs, while Melbardis notched 13 kills, eight digs and four blocks.
- Bosko posted 10 kills and eight blocks.
- Tangorra delivered 14 digs, while Ranck racked up 58 assists.
- Melbadis, Ranck, Smiley were all named to the All-Tournament Team, which was voted upon by the coaches.
- Stevenson extended its home win streak to 10 matches dating back to last season.
- The Mustangs improved to 4-1 in four-set matches.
- The 67 kills and 51 digs by the Mustangs in the nightcap were season highs.
- Stevenson also had eight service aces against Marymount, its second-highest total of the season.
