Mustangs Move to 3-0, Sweep DeSales, Keystone

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Stevenson University women's volleyball team took two matches in day two of the DeSales Tournament Saturday, sweeping the host Bulldogs and Keystone by identical 3-0 scores Saturday at Billera Hall.

  • Set scores were 25-23, 25-22, 25-16.
  • DeSales (1-1) scored the first four points of the first set and led 22-18 late in the frame.
  • Stevenson (3-0) reeled off six straight points to take a 24-22 lead.  One play earlier, a Simone Gest kill put the Mustangs in front.
  • The Bulldogs staved off set point with a kill, but a kill by Victoria Prokic capped the comeback.
  • The Mustangs carried momentum into the second frame, opening by building a 12-2 lead.
  • Stevenson led 24-11 after a kill by Shannon Baily.
  • DeSales put together an 11-0 run to pull within 24-22, but a kill by Sarah Straub ended the threat by the hosts.
  • Stevenson never trailed in the final set, opening up a 17-8 lead.
  • A DeSales ball handling error closed things out.
  • Katie Leftridge led the Mustangs with 13 kills on .346 hitting.
  • Prokic hit .455 and tallied six kills and five blocks.
  • Gest and Mackenzie Blevins also notched six kills apiece.
  • Julie Nightwine posted 17 assists and 10 digs, while Caroline Dangel registered 15 assists.
  • Emily Pellini had a team-high 12 digs.
  • The Mustangs hit .296 as a team compared to .146 for the Bulldogs.

  • Set scores were 25-10, 25-10, 25-20.
  • The Mustangs hit .333 for the match with just nine attack errors, while holding the Giants (0-2) to -.021 hitting for the match.
  • Piper Connors led Stevenson with seven kills, while Blevins and Lauryn Davis had six apiece.
  • Dangel notched 16 assists and 10 digs, while Nightwine added 13.
  • All 18 players saw the floor for the Mustangs in the win.

  • Stevenson has hit at least .250 in each of its first three matches.
  • Prokic moved to within two blocks of second place in program history with 326.  Amy Sibiski totaled 328 from 2002-05.
  • The Mustangs open the season 3-0 for the second time in three seasons.

  • Stevenson is back in action next Saturday in a tri-match at future MAC Commonwealth member York (Pa.).  The Mustangs face the hosts Spartans at noon, then take on Scranton at 2 pm.
  • The Mustangs open their home slate on Friday, September 13 at 6 pm against Dickinson at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
