STEVENSON, Md. - The top-seeded Stevenson men's tennis team claimed its first MAC Commonwealth title in a 5-1 win over third-seeded Messiah in the championship final, held at the Greenspring Courts. Junior Andre Sturniolo, who went 1-0 in No. 2 singles and 2-0 in No. 2 doubles, was named MAC Commonwealth MVP. Head Coach Evan Clifton was named MAC Commonwealth Coach of the Year earlier in the week. 

Sturniolo and senior Douglas Vaughan opened up the match with a dominant 8-1 victory in No. 2 singles, improving their overall mark to 17-3. Senior Wornden Ly and sophomore Richie Abruscato's 8-1 win in No. 3 gave the Mustangs a 2-1 lead heading into singles play. Ly and Abruscato remain undefeated with a record of 12-0. Juniors Ray McDermott and Drew Ryan dropped a tough 8-6 match in No. 1.

Sturniolo would then go on to win his No. 2 singles match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, improving his season record to 15-7. 

Freshman Larry Johnson III won his fourth straight and 14th overall in a 6-3, 6-4 triumph in No. 6, while senior Douglas Vaughan clinched the tournament championship for the Mustangs in a 6-4, 6-3 win in No. 4. 

Stevenson (16-2, 6-0 MAC Commonwealth) will make its first NCAA Division III Tennis Championship appearance next weekend. The Mustangs' first round opponent and match location will be announced on Monday, May 6 at 12 p.m.
