Mustangs See Season End at No. 3 Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. - Third-ranked Tufts got goals from nine different players as it led 11-2 at halftime and defeated Stevenson 19-4 in an NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship Third Round game at Bello Field Saturday afternoon.

  • Four different players scored the first four goals of the game for Tufts (19-1) as it led 4-0 with 6:06 left in the first.
  • Gray McKee opened the scoring for Stevenson (13-8) with 4:32 left in the frame.
  • Danny Murphy became the fifth different Jumbo to score with four seconds left to make it 5-1 after one.

  • A Ben Connelly man-up goal 36 seconds into the second began a run of six straight goals by the Jumbos.
  • Max Waldbaum made it 11-1 with 1:52 remaining in the first half.
  • JT Thelen registered a man-up goal with 1:28 left 
  • Tufts led 11-2 at intermission.

  • The Jumbos extended their lead with goals at 12:03 and 2:14 of the quarter.
  • John Harrington scored with 1:39 left in the quarter off an assist by Lewis Anania.
  • Jacob Tatum scored off a feed from Thelen with four seconds left to make it 13-4 through three.
  • Stevenson goalie Marc Poust made five saves in the quarter.

  • Connelly had two of the six Jumbo goals in the final frame.
  • Nick Katz closed out the scoring for the hosts with 1:51 left.

  • Stevenson senior Dominic DeFazio became the program's all-time leader in caused turnovers with the 140th of his career at the 10:37 mark.  He ends his career with 142 as he had three in the game.
  • Tufts outshot Stevenson 45-39.
  • Poust finished with 16 saves, one shy of his career high.
  • DeFazio and Jimmy Case each had three ground balls.
  • Thelen had a goal and an assist and finishes his career with 192 goals and 75 assists for 267 points.  He finishes first in career goals, fourth in career points and ninth in career assists.
  • Tufts was 1-4 on man-up chances while the Mustangs went 1-7.
  • The Jumbos won 15-of-25 faceoffs.
