Mustangs Drop Non-Conference Doubleheader at Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. - The Stevenson softball team recorded 10 hits and held a three-run lead but the Mustangs could not close late versus Salisbury in a non-conference doubleheader loss versus former their Capital Athletic Conference foe Sunday afternoon.

  • Salisbury 9, Stevenson 1 (6); WP: Powell (11-3), L: Fulton: (7-5)
  • The Mustangs (9-14) put runners on first and second with no outs to open the game. Sophomore Kayla Briles recorded a leadoff single before junior Haley Lennon was hit by a pitch.
  • With two outs, junior Morghan Fulton hit a single through the left side to score Briles from second.
  • With one swing from Dakotah Fraley, the Sea Gulls (18-9) tied the game as Fraley hit the first of two Salisbury home runs.
  • The hosts scored five runs on seven hits in the fifth inning to take a 6-1 lead, including three consecutive RBI singles with two outs.
  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, Amelia Trotter hit a walkoff three-RBI home run to left field.
  • Fulton and junior Erin Muir both went 2-for-3.

  • The Mustangs took a 2-0 lead in the second inning after back-to-back RBIs by freshman Sierra Stark and junior Samantha Znamirowski.
  • In the bottom half of the inning, the Sea Gulls responded with a pair of runs after four consecutive hits to start the inning, including a leadoff triple by Kaleigh Edwards.
  • Briles led off the third inning with a single on a bunt before scoring on a double by Lennon down the left field line.
  • Lennon advanced to third on the throw before scoring on a passed ball.
  • An RBI double by Fulton gave Stevenson a 5-2 lead through three innings.
  • The Sea Gulls tied the game at, 5-5, in the fourth inning before senior Erin Stephey scored from third on a dropped fly ball in the fifth inning to take a one-run lead.
  • Salisbury added four runs over the next two innings, including three runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth.
  • Fulton finished 3-for-4 at the plate.

  • Fulton and Muir both finished with five hits in the two games.
  • In the pitching circle, Fulton has at least one strikeout in 14 of her 15 appearances.

  • Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday, April 10 when the Mustangs travel to Lebanon Valley for a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
  • The Mustangs return home on Saturday, April 13 when the team hosts Albright in a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader. First pitch is schedule for 1:00 p.m.
