Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The third-ranked Stevenson men's volleyball got a battle from visiting Alvernia University early in each set, but ultimately had the more dominant team as they shutout the Golden Wolves by a 3-0 final on Wednesday night at Owings Mills Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-16, 25-19, and 25-13.
- Stevenson (28-3, 12-1 MAC) got off to a strong start with kills from seniors Landon Shorts, Jason Gardner, and sophomore Nate Reynolds to take a 5-1 lead.
- The two sides shared the next eight points allowing the hosts to maintain their four-point edge at 9-5.
- Two kills and an ace for Shorts, along with an assisted block between Reynolds and Gardner wrapped up a 5-1 push by the Mustangs to push the advantage to 14-7.
- Scores by sophomore Logan Smiley, Shorts and Gardner opened the margin to double figures 20-10.
- Alvernia (10-17, 4-8 MAC) picked up six of the following nine points with kills for Logan McGinley and Spencer Matthews cutting the deficit to 23-16.
- The set ended at 25-16, on a kill by Reynolds and an ace for Shorts.
- Stevenson hit an impressive .516 to the guests .182.
- With the score 4-4 to begin the frame two kills and an ace put down by Matthews gave the Golden Wolves a 7-5 lead.
- The Mustangs answered back with an 8-2 run on kills for junior Kyle Bosko, Shorts and a combination block by graduate student Christian Taylor and Reynolds to jump ahead 13-9.
- Alvernia grabbed five of seven with Aaron Kuhlman and Matthews recording kills bringing it to 15-14 in favor of the home side.
- Stevenson outscored the guests 10-5 the remainder of the set with scores posted by Gardner, Bosko, Smiley, Shorts, and Reynolds for the 25-19 win.
- A kill by Josh Stewart brought the Golden Wolves to within 6-5 early in the set.
- The Mustangs took control from there with kills by Shorts, Gardner, and Reynolds aiding a 9-2 gallop to stretch the advantage to 15-7.
- The attack continued on scores put away off the hands of Smiley and Bosko along with two visitor mishits bringing the gap to double-figures 20-9.
- Kills from Reynolds and Smiley capped off the third and the match 25-13.
- Alvernia was held to a flat .000 attack percentage while Stevenson totaled a .417.
- The Mustangs 16-game winning streak is presently the longest in the nation.
- Stevenson hit .391 for the match with Alvernia posting a .074.
- The home side held the edge in blocks 16-3, and in assists 40-28.
- Shorts paced the hosts with 11 kills, four aces, three digs, and two blocks.
