STEVENSON, Md. - The Stevenson men's tennis team clinched the No. 1 seed in the MAC Commonwealth tournament for the first time in program history after taking down second-place Messiah by an 8-1 score.

Juniors Drew Ryan and Ray McDermott kicked off the match with a dominant 8-1 victory in No. 1 doubles, giving them their eighth win on the year. Senior Douglas Vaughan and Andre Sturniolo picked up a solid 8-4 win in No. 2, improving their overall record to 14-2. Senior Wornden Ly and sophomore Richie Abruscato won an exciting 8-7 (7-5) match to complete the doubles sweep. Ly and Abruscato are still undefeated (9-0) in doubles play this year. 

McDermott cruised to a straight set 6-2, 6-2 win in No. 1, while Sturniolo won in No. 2 by a 6-1, 6-3 score to move to 13-6 on the season. 

Ryan's match went to a third-set tiebreak where he would eventually fall by a 6-3, 3-6, 10-5, dropping his record to 13-3. Vaughan overcame a one-set deficit in his No. 4 match to pick up his 12th win of the year. 

Ly notched a 6-2, 6-2 win in No. 5 for the Mustangs. Freshman Larry Johnson III earned his 11th win on the year in a 6-0, 6-1 rout over his No. 6 singles opponent. 

The Mustangs (13-1, 5-0 MAC Commonwealth) will take on Haverford, who is currently ranked #11 in the Atlantic South region, in a non-conference matchup at the Greenspring Tennis Courts on Saturday, April 16 at 3:00 p.m.
